Arkansas Plant Hardiness Zones

Hardiness Zones, also referred to as Growing Zones or Planting zones are defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The zones in this map were created in 2023 using mean extreme climate data covering the period of 1991 to 2020. The previous version of this map released in 2012 was created using climate data from the period of 1976-2005. The data in the 2012 maps covered a cooler period than the 2023 maps.
The US State of Arkansas is covered by a total of four Hardiness Zones: 7a, 7b, 8a and 8b. Zone 7a covers the extreme Northern Ozark areas of the state and includes the cities of Bentonville, Fayetteville and Springdale. Zone 7b the North Central portion of the state as well as higher elevation areas in the West Central area and includes the towns Batesville and Jonesboro. Zone 8a covers most of the Central portion of the state and includes the cities of Fort Smith, Hot Springs, Little Rock and West Memphis. Zone 8b covers the lower elevation Southern and Southeastern areas of the state and includes the cities of Pine Bluff, Texarkana and El Dorado.
